Do you take the beast shopping? Or ferry the children to school? Can your truck be a practical, everyday vehicle?

Is it getting reliable now or are you still tinkering with the engine? - any idea on mpg's?

Reliability now is good. There is always a bit of tinkering to do as you would expect which is not helped by constantly taking it off road. I noticed the brakes are dull yesterday so really I should take off the wheels and hubs and clean out the mud from Wagtails and dust from W and P.

It still rattles and squeaks. When pushed hard the engine scream that I talked about a while back reappears and then goes again and every now and then there is a new random noise of some sort but it is a reliable starter, pulls really well now in all gears and makes me smile every time I get in it. MPG is probably still high as I need to do some more carb setting up and I would like to sort out a better air filter/snorkel arrangement as I have little trust of the oil bath one.

It's a rolling project really like most classic vehicles but I am glad I got it.

Backhouse brought his Gaz down to mine to get a pair of new front tyres fitted. After fighting for a few hours we settled on changing one of the tyres and fitting the spare which was new. After a well earned lunch and disabling his governor we drove round in circles with stupid grins in the empty sheep field to test our efforts

Nice to see a pair of Gaz 66 still with their summer plumage

You need to be a bit careful lads - round my way the huntin' and shootin' season is starting and a brace of Gazs would be a good bag. However the real prize would be a Grozdig or two but they are so difficult to spot that only the best hunter is in with a chance.

Had a great day with Zoltan, learnt alot, I,m trying to get the Gaz ready for a big trip which is imminent. (More news to follow). I must say me and the missus were made to feel so welcome by Colin and his missus. It's great to meet new people with a common interest! The Gaz' looked good together and following the removal of the govenor we managed around 55-60 mph on the way home!

Thanks again Zoltan

Those pictures were taken 2 years ago, we were going to a show at West Park in Wolverhampton, Weather as you see was very good. Then last year we just took the Zil131 and a Uaz. But the show was a washout none stop raining the whole weekend.
