GAZ 66 RAMA r381 Radio unit for sale

Post by Bimblebox » Fri Jan 18, 2019 11:06 pm

The time has come, as the walrus apparently said.
The Bimblebox is up for sale...

1972 registered ex-Czech RAMA r381 unit with generator and control systems in place, but most other equipment has been removed.
The antenna mast is still in place.

Have a look at the ebay listing if you are interested:

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid ... dcc0dd7301

:(

Basically, I'm not enjoying driving it and the gear shift hurts my shoulder (which has problems anyway).
The truck runs and drives ok. I last used it for the 200 mile round trip to the Isle of Wight in August and it performed faultlessly.
Roadhloding and comfort is vastly improved with it now on a set of fresh Stomil T5 tyres.

There are lots of spares with it and most of the equipment I removed (although the vast majority hd already been removed when i bought it)

There are lots of photos of it here:

Cheers,
Andy.

Edit - I've just realised that I pasted the wrong link above. The ebay listing is at:

Well written and honest advert! Most people who buy Russian trucks don't have a clue what they are getting themselves into. Good luck with the sale!

Thanks Rob. It wouldn't do to let people bid with their rose-tinted glasses still in place.

I came into ownership from a relatively experienced position, if not a well-informed one. It's been satisfying to get this far with it, but I really didn't realise just how much physical work would be involved in getting the truck on the road.
Even getting the wheels off and back on is far from trivial.

It has been a good experience being a part of this forum - such a friendly and helpful group of like-minded nutters :)

Well, let's call it a draw =))

Who knows what I will find to play with next? It could be anything, really, but it won't be built quite so heavily and it won't have the anti-ergonomic gearlever...

At least you've had the chance to experience it and move it on and not just shelve it , there seems to be a few cases of where people buy them, spend a shed load of money, then decide they cant manage it and either park them up to rot or list on Ebay for astronomical prices.

I'm fortunate enough to have a forklift that can lift the Gaz two wheels at a time, which saves on the back breaking work alot.

I'm in the middle of a project removing the barrel generator from behind the front bumper and that thing weighs something else, I've gained an extra inch of ride-height on removal!

Good luck with the sale and point the new owner this way!

Scott.

There have been over 3500 hits on the listing and 105 watchers, but no bids yet.

There is potentially a chap popping over to look at it tomorrow, so I have just been home to make sure that it will start. It did, of course :-)

The usual question about MOT from one chap, but only out of interest, not because he wants to buy it...

Time will tell :-)

Andy.

Update: As of this evening, the listing has had 4401 views and there are 132 people watching, but still no bids.
3 days and 1 hour to go.

Maybe I did tooo good a job with the description...

=))

I have had one offer from a guy seeking a film prop (but for less than the starting price), one chap who wanted to pop by and have a look (but I was out of town on business at the time) and one more enquiry from someone who would have to sell his Unimog first, so only if mine doesn't sell for a while...
We shall see :-)

So, no bids...

Am I asking too much at £4500? I don't think so, really.
Oh well.
Maybe I should sell all the spares separately?

Regarding the sale of the Gaz, I would say December and January are the worst months to try and sell anything that is hobby vehicle related.
I find the public start thinking about summer in April, Are you in a rush or can you hold it for a while?

Cheers Scott.

I think £4500 is fine - as Scott said I would re-advertise in 2-3 months

I agree with Scott and Rob, the price is fine, just not quite the buying season yet. This seems to be over April, May and June from my experiences

Well, I thought £3k was a bit rude to receive as an offer, but I have since had "offers" of £2800 and, would you believe, £2000 - and the guy was being serious!

"I can get an immaculate one for 5500 Euros" he says.
Go on then, and pay the best part of £2k for delivery, and pay £300 for a full set of wheel bearings and £1000 for a set of tyres
Oh, and best get on with it before import duties hit in a few weeks...
And then get it UK registered...

What the actual fark is wrong with these people?

Immaculate one for 5500 indeed :-s having bought one just before yours came up for sale I can tell you that there are almost none around. everyone I enquired about in Poland or the Czech repulblic didn't actually exist. Mortar investments quoted me for one but it was around £10 000 (painted and registered to be fair). TDM didn't have any ( they have two low bodied ones in scruffy but whole condition at the moment for about £3000 each plus shipping) and Excalibur wouldn't sell just one. I bought mine from Moto Armia who I know well and it cost about £5000 shipped.
The days of lots to choose from have gone. Most of the armies in Eastern Europe have sold all of their ex soviet vehicles to comply with Nato requirements so the dealers are switching to selling other things.
Your price is good, If I hadn't got one already I would have bought yours (although its the low box ones I like best. Keep advertising and place an advert on Milweb and good luck.
