New ZIL131 M Tyres direct from Russia

Post by Phil23 » Wed Sep 09, 2020 7:11 am

Hi All,

I received a quote off Rustam who posts on the Facebook page for new Zil tyres. The classic M type off road. They are under £200 each including Customs clearance his side. I still need to work out if I have to pay import tax on UK side. Anyidea who I ask for this. Yes I can find the information with a google search but if one of you guys know it will save the research time. Super busy with work. Thanks Oh also does anyone want some new Type M tyres?

Sorry to highjack this thread but I've got a lead on a very cheap Zil 131 but it needs an entire set of tyres. Although with the new 10 year rule most trucks I buy will eventually need new tyres. So i've got a few questions, the stock tyres is a Kama 402 12r20 https://www.tyreleader.co.uk/truck-tyre ... HdEALw_wcB isn't it? Anyone found a cheap place for these? As 12r20 seems a very strange size and is getting harder to find, is there any rims that you can fit to extend the amount of tyres averrable to yourself.

IIRC, the stock tyres are M93 for Zil131. But frankly I don't know if anyone should buy old tyres of any kind - without a way to know how they were stored, its kinda lottery.

That seems a tad extreme way of buying tyres. On top of probable import duties, palleting them from Russia will be really expensive. There are not many pallet carriers who operate that route. There are suppliers within the EU like Stomil in Poland and the other suppliers as mentioned. They are only 20" tyres, same as Unimog etc.

You can get the Kama 402s in the UK https://www.tyreleader.co.uk/truck-tyre ... gJELvD_BwE I'm just wondering if anyone had found any good deals on m+s tyres. Either that our knows a good rim that will fit, that isn't a dying out tyre size.

The original CCCP tyres are generally degrading considerably now. They are/were great for poor quality Russian roads, but I've always found them a bit hard for UK roads. A softer semi-off road tyre I would recommend is the Goodyear G388. They are still chunky, but are less tooth loosening than original...

Isn't the G388 the same tyre they fit to the Army DAF T244s that can't even negotiate wet grass?

They aren’t even made anymore by the looks of it as well. May look into custom rims or rims that match that bolt battery that will accept a metric tyre.

Size and treads yes, but very different layer count - 18 for 402 VS 8 for M93. M93 seem to be softer, which might be a consideration for low-PSI applications for not overly heavy trucks like ours.
But I concur with MrRussia, I wouldn't buy soviet tyres. It might make sense as a makeshift solution here in RF (I did that), but old not properly stored rubber cannot beat new. You just have to scour the specs in search for proper replacements.

Sorry, Cannot say more about ZILs - I'm a GAZ guy after all.

You are totally correct, I didn't notice the ply count, but I've found reseller in Lithuania that I'm going to chase up about m93 tyres https://protekta.lt/en/truck-bus-tyres/ ... f-ttf.html . If not I'll have a look at the Kama 402s.

Can you remember the rough cost and who you used? As they stock the tyres I want.

Baltyre. 4 K70 tyres, 4 tubes, 4 rubber sleeves and
transport included at approx €1000. The transport was 190€ with Shenker. Baltyre sorted it all out for me! That was 3 years ago.
At least its an idea
