Zil Manual Download

Post by scollyer » Wed Mar 05, 2008 8:37 pm

The English Zil131 Service manual is now on my web page so it can be downloaded from there. Go to www.ural4320.com and look under manuals section.

I have scanned a album of the Zil 131's devices (in russian). If it need to anybody, I should send a copy to ftp (the size is 350 Mb in tiff format!). For example, one page with a picture of transfer box Image

Rob,

I've sent an email to Arcadiy asking him to download it to my ftp server, when I get it I will make it available to everyone.

Hello,
just found this on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.de/Lkw-ZIL-131-Beschrei ... dZViewItem

I already have this book and it's been very helpful. Didn't find the time for scanning, yet.

Have a nice sunday.

Bye

Hi guys,

I received loads of cool manuals and wiring diagrams with our ZIL, which I am in the process of scanning in.
Before you get too excited, they will all be in Russian :(

So far I've just done the Telescopic Mast maintenance manual, which was a bargain 27 pages.
For quite a lot of the diagrams I will have to get someone professional to scan them as they are A3 or bigger.
I know KarlJ said in the past that there may not be enough bandwidth/storage for many more on the forums' servers, but hopefully this coming friday my server will be back online and I can store them on there if someone wants to link to them.

I will post the URL when it's ready, if someone could link to it from the documentation section.
Eventually I would like to find someone decent to translate them into English, but it'll probably cost a bit, as there's a lot of them and of course they're technical.

Cheers

If you scan at 300dpi or higher you can use OCR software to read the Russian automatically. You can then use Google translate to translate chunks of it remarkably well. Having a technical Russian speaker go over the Google translation in an already formatted text with original pictures all laid out for him / her will save a huge amount of time and cost.

What OCR software would you recommend for Russian?
Also, does anyone know a good way of adding annotations to scanned documents?

Thanks,

Btw, the links to the ZIL 131 English scanned manuals have broken - they've moved them on the website (references on the website itself are broken, but the search function found them:

Hi guys.
Finally I've scanned and translated the first document.
It's not a very interesting one, but it was short, and I wanted to try the translation service a friend recommended before having to shell out loads of money for poor results.

Here is the first one:

http://46.247.10.180/ZIL-131/Documentat ... nglish.pdf
http://46.247.10.180/ZIL-131/Documentat ... ussian.pdf

It looks ok to me, but if anyone finds any problems with the translations, please let me know.
The next one I want to translate is the Telescopic Mast, but as this is 37 pages, and the 7 page one above cost me £55 to translate, it will be a while :(

Feel free to post amendments or host the files elsewhere.

Have you tried the @prompt software? I have an old version of it one one of my laptops, it has a built in OCR function which even works fairly well on photos i.e. for deciphering data plates on vehicles :D

Oh yeah, it does also allow you to alter the translated text if need be.
