What have I broken ?

going up a fairly steep hill in 4 low and first started to lose traction the engine cut out and I heard a bank ?
now all I have is drive to the rear wheel drivers side ?
have I goosed the front and rear diffs ?

Probably front diff or something in the transfer box - we're you on tarmac or dirt?

Yes what vehicle?
So you were in 4wd and low ratio?
How did you establish drive only going to one rear wheel?
Does it have diff locks?

If its the Uaz it doesn't have cross lock so only one side will drive anyway - noticeable in slippy conditions - I would sort the problem before driving again you could make it worse

it was the 469 ,grass slightly damp .I put the vehicle on axle stands when I got back to the garage ,the vehicle is grounded all right
