Do you take the beast shopping? Or ferry the children to school? Can your truck be a practical, everyday vehicle?

You've not had a lot of luck with fans and radiators. Last time they were having a bit of a fight under there.

only thing that pleased me was the rad surviving.had to replace the two alternator belts cos mangled but compressor/power steering ones ok[good job cos pretty near new].right fight to untangle them at the side of road to get home and really didn't want any attention from police etc cos had 4t of setts on the back :-$ .tesco ripping them up and dumping them so had to liberate/recycle them-bought them off contractor for 2quid a square yard.dreading unloading them cos v.heavy[3" thick by18 x18 and 25kilo each one.]

Most car shops or motor factors will have something.

That's almost as bad as leaving your new mobile under the bonnet #-o - Oh well I've still got my old one 8-|

My last MOT on the Disco, the tester pointed out that the spanner I had left on the nut behind the tow hitch was probably non standard. It had been there a while. :blushing: :D

The diagnosis is "my electrics are shot" I am also. Leaking volts and amps from the rusty and burnt cables and switches

You may be able to do repairs to the damaged areas if the rest of the wire is OK but if not you will need a new loom. It's worth looking at this problem carefully as you may end up with a fire. Get familiar with where your battery isolator is until you get it sorted. X_X

A replacement loom can take you to some very miserable times if it is not exactly the same as the original. Luckily the Uaz is pretty simple. Spare a thought for the poor devil who has to replace a loom on a modern fully loaded car. :(

Decided today to call them CAFCEM cars. (Cars any fool can easily mend). The Uaz is definitely cafcem. :D

Picture the modern automotive design office.

Thinks, "........... great, now we just need to get it under the bonnet"

Breakdown number 2 and 3 in one day

Post by Jorgus1983 » Wed Nov 17, 2010 9:34 pm

Hi guys - managed to break the UAZ twice today:
In the morning my fanbelt snapped - managed to fit a spare one I had but it's too short... went to hallfords to get one but their fan belts have no sizes on them and insisted on having the reg no or make and model :
I need 12x 970 flat... and dopn't know how to work it out
Turns out in the evening that I left the headlights on so had to jump start it - so that one is self inflicted...

Go to your local Unipart/Part-co - they are far better than Hellfords, lots cheaper and actually know what they are talking about. If you have a local belt supplier they are also good. I took my Zil steering belt and the two ladies behind the desk came up trumps.

Halfords is usually the very last place on earth I would look but if that is all that is near. Look for bearing suppliers in Yellow pages, we get all of our belts that way

It is only approximate but if you have the flat length they should be able to get a good match as that is how they are sold
