crane zil

Post by paulob1 » Mon Dec 14, 2009 11:05 pm

okay after much debate we are going for behind the cab...relocating the fuel tanks and air tanks and fitting a flat bed plus a rear mounted hydraulic winch, off the rear facing pto with twin 40l hydraulic pump...

fitting it this week, will post piccies tomorrow...this is andys old truck, got new clutch and now she is firing properly she wont thin out the oil so much and hopefully I wont get as much seepage through the crank seals...

when she is done she will be my mini logging truck and will likely go diesel once the first install is done...but thats not completely committed as of now

If your oil is getting thinned out check you fuel pump for leakage, when a leak occurs it often lets fuel down to the sump.

okay crane behind the cab now, controls being fittted at ground level, fuel tank on and air tank fitted behind the crane...filler slap bang in the middle, pain but manageable...then build a flat bed for the logs and stuff i will carry on her...

one change we are finding that is making them all run a treat is changing the coils, using a 1.65ohm coil and modern plugs and leads and the trucks are running so sweet ...bet they are doing more to the gallon too.....lovely jubbly...I know pictures, they will be here tomorrow...

the zil with 4 ton crane...just debating whether I really need the legs...will see how she works without them first of all

Fuel tank is placed central at the back of the truck, may change this layout but it will be under the flat bed that is about to go on, well that we will build on it...

air tank water bleed valve is leaking a tad but not a lot...want to fit another two tanks so if anyone has any spare tanks I need two big ones...engine running sweet, just need to get her cleaned up, new bonnet and paint and then she will be road ready...oh back lights too...

This looks very useful.

If it works out anything like the hiab trucks that deliver to me you will be limited without the legs. It would be a pity not to be able to use the full range of the crane.

its now getting a tipper off an old truck I purchased.....soon to be fitted, just stripping it off the old truck now,...it has its rear winch, this will be getting replaced I think as it isn't man enough, and this truck may be the first to get a gm 6.2 litre diesel engine fitted, instead of the cummins diesel engine...will be a better fit...and more power, higher revs too...will mate it to the std gearbox. dont need speed just power...if I can get40-45 mph I will be happy with that,...

The 6.2 V8 GMC engine will not provide anywhere near the amount of torque that the turbo 6BT Cummins provides. Find a Ford/Navistar 7.3 turbo diesel engine instead.

There is a 6.5 v8 turbo diesel with auto box on evilbay at the moment. I think it has come from a Tavern armoured vehicle.

the smaller v6 eurocargo engine produces that, the newer curor ones a lot more and tons of torque....what torque are you wishing to instill???

meant eurocargo and CURSOR engines...300bhp quite easy from them, right up to silly torque (2500-3000) for cursor engines as standard, plenty of truck scrappies if you need to go and see one to measure up for fit....
