What plans does everyone have this year?

Post by ChrisClemson » Thu Jan 12, 2017 11:24 pm

Happy New Year Everyone!

What shows are people going to this year?

We haven't got any planned yet, and may have to miss war and peace again - I may be trying to learn Korean then :)

This weekend I drove the Zil for the first time in 2 months, and it started first time :)

I'm liking the sound of these Cummins engines :)

I think our only outing will be the forum meet whenever that occurs- some time in the Summer I guess. Not fussed over War and Peace- is that still at Folkestone for it's last year?

We will defo be going to Military flying machines again, have moved location, closer to home!!! Always a good laid back show, new location is good too, nice site.

The Diesel Gaz will need a test run up to Essex for a weekend by that stage.

Dunno about Folkestone, still a long way down that M20.

Am planning on Glastonbudget again in leicester and hopefully the Gaz will be fit for it this year. Last year it blew the head gasket a week before and had to leave it behind.
The forum meet was good fun and will do it again if timing is right.
Also the overland show in Warwick was very good so may do that again.
I also need to look at what's going on up here near yorkshire.

Going to look at shows in the south west this year. Hopefully I can get the Zil to the forum meet and other Midland shows this year, it gets boring driving the Scammell compared. The Praga just needs the starter sorting so hopefully I can get that mobile too for a few weekends at Avon Dassett quarry.

After the problems / delay we had last year with the overhaul of the engine of or GAZ 66 - caused by others than technical issues - we are planning a bigger holiday trip this summer through the Baltic states, St. Petersburg, Lake Ladoga and the southeastern part of Finland.

We are still deciding what will be the test trip before.

Best regards

Keep me posted on anything happening in the North.
If the Gaz gets a Cummins this year it makes it more practical for long runs, the V8 just doesn't inspire any confidence.
The Mk 1 Praga just isn't made for long runs. The drive up from London was a bit epic. Events in Ireland are easily accessed from Scotland / North England and the drive is more suited to old slow things liable to break down.

:) We actually used it to do something useful this weekend - collect a ton or so of waste wood from a construction site I'm working at. That'll keep us warm for some considerable time :)

Yes, War and Peace seems to be at the same place again from the 25th-29th July.

I'll start with saying we won't be doing war and peace this year. It's just too big of an expense now and I only enjoy the show because of who is there. So planning to use that saved cash on going to shows where friend's are :D

Planning to go to so far
Wartime in the Vale
Banbury Steam Rally
Tanks trucks and firepower
Overlander show in Stratford upon Avon
And of course the forum meet(s?)

Thinking maybe also drive up to the Yorkshire wartime experience next to Mr Pacey and possibly down to Capel

You must mean the show organised by my club next to the Durham Light Infantry museum on the August bank holiday weekend.
The museum is now closed :( There was an attempt at running the show on the same site last year but it collapsed amid bureaucratic difficulties of one type or another. :-w
I know the club is seeking a new venue for the show, but have not been to the meetings of late and therefore don't know of progress on this...

Is there any interest in Dunsfold's "Wings and Wheels" this year? (End of August) Has a strong and very relevant military element but last year was mostly US. I'd like to turn up with with my Gaz. Anyone interested?
