Re: War & Peace 2010 Photos
It was very good to drive and a tidy restoration. Not painfully noisy and fairly nippy considering the weight of the thing. Ride is brilliant as you sort of float over the lumps and bumps. Gearbox was long travel but OK and the steering was fairly light. As with all armour you drive around with that sneaking feeling that you may just have run over a tent or a party of school children and not noticed it so you rely on spotters. Having said that visibility is not too bad.
A good laugh and this one didn't need Chris in the back fiddling to keep the engine running.

Rob this BTR is nothing like the other one ,both engines start on there own ,no bump starting.
gear change easy if i had the money i d buy this one , and not that bad on fuel considering the amount of driving we did in it ( MUST BE GOOD TO GET CHRIS DRIVING IT )

Re: War & Peace 2010 Photos
Thought Id chip in to the discussion on the BTR, and share a few photos.
I originally "sold" this BTR to a customer abroad, but because he didnt pay anything for 9months reclaimed it back and delivered it to Beltring.....Glad I did it really is a nice vehicle, and its up there amongst one of my best vehicles.
It used 125Litres (5 Jerrycans) whilst at Beltring, and we had a play in it most days. Its 1000% nicer to drive an operate than the OT64 which I detest (really). The only minus points being its (two) Petrol engines, and its width.
I (may) put a turret on this year? I have another BTR languishing on the side....This good BTR has encouraged me to do something about that one. I'm very tempted to dieselize it and may take myself of on a trip east to locate a 1 into 2 gearbox.
Anyhow enough blathering....heres some photos of vehicles. NB The Camouflaged BTR I sold last year....Its still in the UK owned by a good friend a major in the Army.

she really is a beauty! i had a bit of a dislike/ phobia of armoured stuff in the past, but that btr really was great therapy!! only trouble is im kinda obsessed with it now!!!!! i love it to bits! i really got the hang of it and was driving it like a nutcase on the last day when the back field emptied! i had the time of my life!! (cheers again dunc!) its had a fantastic resto job (the inside is like new! even new shiney nuts and bolts!!! and unlike most armoured stuff, its bright, airy, roomy with good visibility!! and unlike the others ive seen, its not like a dark tomb full of alien equipment. i felt like i was driving a restored plaxtons coach!!! now all i need to do is win the lottery!! (duncan would be my first port of call coz i want that btr!!!!!)

Re: War & Peace 2010 Photos
I am pretty certain the star uses a 1 into two transfer box, will take a look. its a 12 ton truck fully laden so it should take the load...it would be perfect for your BTR and you would have a high and low option too...I am sure one of them would be fine for the thing, then fit a diesel, cummins c series, 275 bhp, or a 300 version with auto box...now that would be fun to drive...i am just buying one for one of my 375 d Urals...its going diesel and auto...
Re: War & Peace 2010 Photos
I think they sell for around £400,000 pounds plus...if you can get one...KarlJ wrote:One of Paul's lads said he could get me a diesel 70 though, so I'll hang on for that

I'd better start saving! By the time I'm retired they may have dropped to a reasonable amount (and I'll want an -80 or -90 then!).

Re: War & Peace 2010 Photos
Skip the Spartan from yuor "wants" list then and get an OT or BMP-1 or one of it's derivatives then Paul.
Apart from the issue with the <sensoreds> at VOSA in road use it's a lot more practical than the Spartan - and a HELL of a lot easier to get at the mechanicals!!
