Back in the early eighties a friends friend had just restored a dukw, got it road registered and decided to take it for a jaunt, i was with my mate so got invited along, we set off to Rodley and he drove it down the ramp into the Leeds Liverpool canal...we got about a mile before the police turned up...most of us were drinking so the owner got breathalysed, luckily he hadn’t.
He did, however, get a bollocking, albeit friendly, as there was no license or safety cert for being on the water. It performed really well but I think we left a 4 mile trail of filthy canal water on the way back

Oops, with these vehicles being so unusual they do tend to attract attention. When we go onto Windermere we get a day licence or whatever its officially called, life jackets etc. The funny bit is when people see what they think is an American jeep with a load of middle age blokes in it , drive down the ramp towards the water and expect it to stop just short of the water......but of course it doesn't. They perhaps think that the brakes have failed, but then the nose comes up and off we go. Its fantastic, and a privilege to be able to do it.

It would be good to get a BMP or MTLB on there

I once drove the MTLB into the canal here but the waters only 4’ deep and there were two 20mm cannon holes in it...I wonder if Paul’s patched them up? That’s beside the door seals being buggered and no vane on it...But it was literally in and out to turn around

Kieran meant a SAIL not a SALE...
I know the two owners and I am pretty certain the 46 is not for sale...

I know about 60 GAZ 46 units in various conditions, driving and swimming, to ones that slowly oxidize and disappear ... Despite this, you can still buy ... the question of price remains.

It started innocently with replacing the coil ... where the cable started to crumble in the fingers ...
later the cable from the battery
