This is fabulous . Behind the trio in dark collar there is a GAZ-69A (=4 doors) which displays very odd early features. The numberplate is offset as per original Soviet arrangement and has a black background rather than white (VA can just about be guessed on the left with the two letters one above the other). I think I can see the original side lights and something else beneath which may have a separate front indicator. This is SOOOOOO good
Updated since I won the auction with a better scan and removal of the seller's name

Definutely1950s. The militiaman on the right (who must have been very short) is possibly giving directions to the soldiers in the GAZ-69A (one shoulder board is visible for the passenger). To note the oval shaped search light and the earlier door handles. This may well be a Gorky GAZ as opposed to a Ulyanovsk one.

Two early ones -I think-

It is relatively rare to see one of these with the canvas up. For some bizarre reason, these are more often documented with NVA markings than with any other. Technically it is a 2P26 on the chassis of a GAZ-69. the bodywork was special. I think the canvas contraption was meant to disguise these as ordinary GAZ-69s, hiding their anti-tank capability

Said to be with the Soviet Border Guards. Photograph is flipped left to right
Re: Period photographs of Gaz 69s in service
Soviet military, but details not good enough to establish a possible date or what kind of unit...
Re: Period photographs of Gaz 69s in service
DDR radio one. Must be early 60s because of the Drillich uniform. To note that the vehicle appears to be in (Soviet) factory fresh conditions with no DDR modification and still the shiny factory paint finish.
added: probably the same vehicle

To note the military numberplate; the T in triangle symbol and the mudflaps.

Militia = Police
details on the uniform are not clear. He has removed the air filter.
nice tidy GAZ-69A with some bits chromed

I guess this would have been for the BIG parade for the October revolution (because of the overcoats) in Moscow (maybe?). I think these are the VDV = paras.
To note the front hubs identify this as a GAZ-69A-68. So it probably is dated 1969 or 1970. I cannot quite see any other obvious dating element

Another radio one in service with the NVA. ON the back it is dated Ahlbeck 1967. To note that it is still sporting the Soviet front indicators and a Notek convoy light is just about visible on the left wing.
