Re: Distributors

The oil pump doesn't care where its at, all it needs is to go round and round :ban When I swapped my NVA distributor for the Russian one I had the same issue you did. What I found was easy was to turn the crank until #1 cylinder was at TDC for firing... I then took out the two bolts on the oil pump ...

Re: I am pleased...

But getting back to the head-gasket, one of the last emails I received from the seller indicated that the gasket was for a 2.12 engine. Indeed you can see here how the gasket overlaps with the cylinder bore marginally covering the piston: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y125/iannima/Klaus/Engineb....

Re: I'm annoyed...

I wonder... has anyone tried to bore out an 82mm block to 88mm? I suspect the castings are different between the two and there would not be enough "meat" in the cylinder wall to bore that much out though. That's how they must have started because everything else is the same: crankshaft, sump etc. T...

Re: I'm annoyed...

It doesn't sound like anything really bad going on in there, everything is within 6psi, on this side of the pond that would not be cause for alarm, if #1 was at like 20psi lower the rest there would be an issue. I always take compression readings on an old engine and then add a bit of motor oil to t...

Re: I'm annoyed...

What a deal [-( I don't know how the used engine market is over there but over here I don't buy an engine without planning on rebuilding it myself! One person's "rebuilt engine that runs great" is a worn out boat anchor to another ~X( I've been there... these days I take apart every engine I buy to ...

Re: Loss of power!

p.s. many vehicles especially older ones, have a built in point on the inlet manifold somewhere-just a bolt filling a threaded hole in the manifold itself-series lr etc often have it etc-but not always. If I have understood Haymish correctly, the best such point in the Gaz would be that small silve...

Re: Clutch problem

Remove spring #42. Part #41 will pull out with no trouble now, let it droop down and hang. Now undo the bolts that hold #40 on the bell housing and then give it a yank and pull it straight out. It has a spring that clips over #38 that causes some resistance when removing :ban

Re: Clutch problem

Spring #37 is just the thrust bearing return spring... and its a bugger to install. Its almost easier to unbolt the tranny, pull it out, and then install that spring! The fork that actuates the thrust bearing should not let it turn even with the spring disconected becase the thrust bearing has "ears...
