Great photos! I had the Trabant in a car show last Saturday.
There were some American military vehicles there too. I wanted to park across the street from them and stare at them with the GAZ but I am still one brake hose away from mobility

Re: Gaz69 cylinder head studs/nuts
Mine was fairly close but not spot on. That was why I was unsure about the function of the rivit. Thanks for the info- at least I know what it should be doing! I marked TDC on the flywheel when I replaced the head. It was VERY difficult for me to find TDC with the head on the GAZ 69 because the spar...

Re: Gaz69 cylinder head studs/nuts
I had some success with one of the "Colour Tune" tools for getting the carb set up. Has anyone ever deciphered the meaning of the maks on the flywheel? I ghave something that looks like a rivet and then some hatch marks off of that. There MIGHT be the number 8 there too but I don't really see other ...

Re: Gaz69 cylinder head studs/nuts
Glad to hear that the your Gaz is mobile! It is a great feeling isn't it! As far as I know popping has more to do with carbourettor mixture than your vacume advance. I would not do anything to the distributor unless it has a LOT of slop in it that would require a new bearing. Other than that there i...

Re: Gaz 69 Tech Manual - English
Here is the R-109M with the UM-2 amp. There is also a kulikov antenna in the picture but it is hard to see. The gray metal box on the floor of the Gaz is a voltage converter to convet 12 vdc to 4.8 vdc to run the radio.

Re: Gaz 69 Tech Manual - English
Derek, If you are still talking to me... I am very impressed with your GAZ! A gaz 69 radio truck is a dream vehicle for me! Do you have the R-125 radio system? My Gaz 69 has a bit shorther communications range than yours. I just have an R105D or sometimes an R109M in the back of mine! (sometimes wit...

Sorry, I didn't realize it was somebody working on this as a service to rest of us
I thought it was something someone in the east had done professionally. My apologies for criticizing your contribution.
I feel very embarrassed now!

Re: Gaz 69 Tech Manual - English
Manual has been printed and bound. I did get a chance to do some reading though- I think it is the most strangly translated anything I have ever seen. I had to read it with the Russain version to make out alot of what they meant.

Re: Gaz69 cylinder head studs/nuts
The wheel cylinders magicly appeared in the mail last night!
I guess complaining on the Russain Truck site made U.S. customs so afraid of bad publicity that they hand carried them to my house and stuffed them in the mailbox!
It could have happend that way!!!

Re: Gaz69 cylinder head studs/nuts
So how do I know who to call to get some action on my wheel cylinders?!?
I didn't know you could even bug them! The tomozhniki were bad in Kazakhstan, but at least you could bribe them and get your stuff fast!

Re: Gaz69 cylinder head studs/nuts
I have been waiting on front wheel cylinders from Russia for WAY over a month! I did order from Russain spares too. Todor said that 2 packages were sent but only one is here so far! I blame American customs. Yesterday I had three packages arrive from three different counteries and all were ordered a...

It supposedly was used by the Ministry of Agriculture. I'm wondering if this might account for a non-standard carb or some of the other things like a cigarette lighter that this GAZ has. I know that vehicles dismissed by the army were passed on to the Forestry commission and other civilian agencies...

One other thing, Note on the DDR carb, the vacume line attachment points. One on the top of the float bowl, one on the carb body for the vacume source and a third at the base of the for the vacume advance.

Re: GAZ carb issues and solutions
Very interesting! Thank you. Did you have to change the studs when you fitted the K22? I have done a search for a carburettor HVF and the only thing that comes up is for some boat engine of the 1960s or so. Perhaps that would explain the weird vacuum contraptions that you suggested it had. ...

Here are some photos of the carbs I have been talking about. The K-22 zhe is shown in the photos of the carb mounted on the GAZ. The carb on the work bench is what was installed on the GAZ when I bought it.

Re: Parts from Bulgaria!
I was very lucky with my engine. The GAZ has 60,000 km on it so I was wondering what he condition of the engine might be. One day the head failed so I had to replace it. When I removed it and examined the cylinders, I saw that they still had the hatching on the cylinder walls and the pistons were no...
